NCAA Sand Volleyball

The NCAA has announced that sand volleyball will be the newest collegiate sport. The sport will be called sand volleyball instead of beach volleyball because most of the schools will not be near beaches. The U.S. has made it known to the world that we are the dominating country for beach volleyball and having it as a collegiate sport will only produce more talented players. The question now is who will be coaching the sand volleyball teams at the colleges that will embrace this new sport? To say that the indoor volleyball coach or staff should be in charge of the team would be as smart as having a ping pong coach teach tennis. The concepts are the same in both sports but they are very different even though the names are similar. You wouldn't have a hip hop dancer teach a ballroom class even though they might be a great dancer in their own field. Universities are going to have to find coaches that specialize in sand volleyball to coach this new sport. The sport is only for women at this point but many hope that they will open it to men in the future. Beach volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and this is a very smart move on the NCAA's part.
